Cooperative Learning in Visual and Plastic Arts Education for the Promotion of Heritage Education

Abstract

Cooperative development in artistic learning environments emerges as an effective pedagogical strategy that fosters collaboration between students and teachers, promoting not only academic performance but also the enhancement of social and creative skills. This study, conducted in educational institutions in Azogues, Ecuador, was based on a mixed-method approach, combining qualitative and quantitative methods to analyze how this methodology is managed in real contexts. The findings reveal that cooperative work—through group projects, defined roles, and didactic resources—boosts students’ creativity and motivation, although it faces limitations such as the lack of versatile learning spaces and the need for greater teacher training. Cooperative learning not only improves participation and social cohesion at levels such as Technical High School and Early Childhood Education, but also stimulates critical thinking, effective communication, and the construction of shared knowledge. Despite its benefits, structural and formative challenges remain, including inadequate infrastructure and insufficient specialized training. In this context, art becomes an integrative pedagogical tool that facilitates meaningful learning and fosters a culture of cooperation from an early age. The study concludes that the success of cooperative development depends on institutional commitment, continuous teacher development, and the contextual adaptation of the methodologies employed. When well-managed, this practice contributes to a more inclusive, participatory, and diversity-centered education.
