Stated editorial practices and documentary visibility of Ecuadorian scientific journals: A study of the RERCIE Catalog published in 2024

Objective: To analyse declared editorial practices, visibility, and documentary quality indicators in Ecuadorian scientific journals included in the 2024 RERCIE catalogue. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional documentary study used 82 journals as the frame; 81 readable information records were coded. Results: 50 of 81 records (61.7%) declared double-blind review, 27 (33.3%) declared peer review or arbitration without explicit double-blind review, and 4 (4.9%) did not allow modality identification. Research, review, and reflection article categories were mentioned in 60 (74.1%), 9 (11.1%), and 13 (16.0%) records, respectively; categories were non-exclusive. RERCIE identified all 82 journals as open access. The catalogue did not provide structured periodicity fields or a journal-level indexing inventory. Conclusion: the corpus broadly declares review practices, but visibility and quality must be interpreted as documentary signals rather than as global measures of editorial or scientific quality.
